Moscow has only shielded traditional values from Western propaganda, the president said<\/strong><\/p>\n Russia has banned propaganda promoting same-sex relations but has never sought to outlaw homosexuality itself, according to President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n In 2023, the Russian\u00a0Supreme Court declared the\u00a0\u201cinternational LGBT movement\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to be an extremist organization.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have only discussed a ban on propaganda. We have never spoken about banning non-traditional relationships. Moreover, we have always maintained that all people are equal,\u201d<\/em> Putin said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin released on Sunday. \u201cAdults have the right to live as they choose.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Putin emphasized that he backed the 2013 law banning \u201cLGBTQ propaganda\u201d<\/em> for minors because he believed that \u201cWestern mainstream ideology was being injected into the minds of the Russian people.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>In 2022, the law was expanded to include adults.<\/p>\n
